Peter Abungu’s Biography

Peter Abungu was born January 6, 1977 in Siaya County of Western, Kenya.  He has been married 15 years to his beautiful wife Julie and has been blessed with three amazing children Barnabas James (14 years old), Joy Imani (12 years old) and Abigail Wema (6 years old).

Peter received his training in Theology and Christian Youth Work through South West Youth Ministries (SWYM), at Moorland Theological College in the UK.

In 2002, Peter founded Swahiba Networks Ministries.  Swahiba, which means close friend in Swahili, is a faith based organization whose primary focus is on the marginalized, underprivileged and destitute communities living in the slums of Nairobi and rural areas of Kenya, especially widows and orphans.  With over 18 years in ministry, Peter currently serves as the Founder and Director of the organization, which focuses on training in discipleship, mentoring, feeding and empowering through skills and trade training.

Peter has also served on the board of African Christian Camping – ACC, African director for International Christian Youth Networks – IYC; he currently serves as one of the lead trainers with First Priority Global. He is a serving board member of Preserving Human Dignity – PHD.

Currently 1721 students are being discipled, mentored, trained and empowered through the weekly ministry outreach programs of Swahiba Networks: The following are the programs;

Jitambue (meaning discover) Purity Program, Mentorship and Empowerment Program (MEP), Abide Christian Youth Camps (Five days retreat), Tabasamu (meaning smile) Shoe campaign.

Approximately 83% of the young people who come through Swahiba’s ministries programs surrender their lives to Christ.  Since inception (in 2012), 19,211 have surrendered their lives to the Lord.  It is projected that within 10 years 25,000 more young people will be reached with the gospel.
